Tony Blair
Published in Hardcover by Warner Books (January, 1996)
Average review score:

Really fabulous, I thoughtWell worth reading, even though my edition stopped just before Blair's first election as PM. The author didn't write it for Americans -- I had to guess at a lot of the British electoral and political terminology -- but he seems to have a subtle and sophisticated sense of politicians and the UK electorate from the 1970s to mid-1990s. One big surprise was the extent to which the Blairites intentionally copied themes from the 1992 Clinton campaign. Whether that makes you smile or grimace no doubt depends on your opinion of New Democrats.
Balanced and fair: Amazing! As a "Blairite" (I can feel prejudices leaping into life even as I type), I was expecting this book to jump on the bandwagon of New Labour bashing, as it just isn't the done thing to give the current government credit for anything. I was therefore pleasantly surprised to discover that this biography is astonishingly well balanced. TB's sincerity and achievements are given due recognition, while the author at the samw time paints a portrait of a driven man, who has expertly used the machinery of politics to his advantage, utilising all sorts of arguably cynical plotting and dancing through a myriad morally grey areas. You will almost certianly take from this book what you bring to it. If you feel that Tony Blair has been a good PM, and person in general, then Mr. Rentoul's willingness to showcase Labour's progressive measures will reassure you of the tangible effect he has has on the country. If you feel that New Labour hasn't delivered, that it's "all spin and no delivery" (oh, how I hate that phrase!), or that he sold socialism down the river, then you'll also find enough evidence to justify your complaints. The bbok itself is well written, packed with insight, and superbly backed up with the relevant quotes and a thorough list of references. If you have any interest in modern British politics, you'll like this.

The Tree of the Nevee: A Kabbalistic Story of Elijah the Wizard
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (December, 2002)
Average review score:

Very Pleasantly Surprised !As one who has been following the Path for some time, I bought this book expecting a tediously shallow Enlightenment story. However, I found this book to be an in-depth, coherent, and exciting look at the Kabbalistic Path. As "The Mists of Avalon" is a meaningful guide to the Celtic Way, I feel this book will be the blueprint for someone who wishes to enter the world of Jewish Mysticism. I highly recommend this book to all who wish to be lead on a story of Enlightenment. I could not put the book down after Chapter 3 !
Mysticism and theology. This book has an excellent flow of language, and the story itself is beautiful. I went into the reading of it knowing very little about the Kabbalah and the mystical lore the story is based on, but was quickly drawn in and learned a great deal in the process of enjoying the story. I'll look forward to reading more books by this author.

Two Steps Back: A Lifetime Forward
Published in Hardcover by Consignment Trust Company (15 December, 1999)
Average review score:

Two Steps Back, A Lifetime ForwardI met Bryan Fiese at one of his book lectures. Mr. Fiese is a vibrant, enthusiastic young man. He has developed a unique perspective on life and shares this perspective in his book, Two Steps Back, A Lifetime Forward. In his book, he paints a picture of life's journey as the "River of Life." He speaks of building your 'raft' to withstand the adventures of the river in order to reach the "Lake of Dreams." Mr. Fiese then states that the 'first step back' is to get in touch with your inner vision through meditation. The 'second step back' is to understand your behaviors by identifying the thoughts and the emotions that lead to your behaviors. 'A Lifetime Forward' begins with planting a commitment tree by writing down "what it is that you are committing yourself to become." He defines commitment as "a promise, a pledge to achieve an objective within a specific time period." Your idea becomes your 'seed.' Then you must "develop your roots" and "constantly feed and nourish your tree." Mr. Fiese provides ample tips for nourishing your commitment tree. He also gives great suggestions for quitting bad habits, living a healthier life, and building lasting relationships. The book concludes with a two page poem from an Indian Elder that will literally reach out and touch your soul. Bryan Fiese's book is a great source of inspiration. He encourages the reader to smile and live with enthusiasm. This author's words are like a breath of fresh air.
Recommended reading for anyone seeking self-improvement.In Two Steps Back, A Lifetime Forward, author Bryan Fiese provides a guide for acquiring positive insights to cope with the stresses and concerns of contemporary society. Through the use of humorous anecdote and story, Fiese showcases proven techniques and simple strategies that change thinking, make life more exciting, and our personal futures more optimistic. Readers will learn how to break bad habits, release negative emotions, understand feelings, control their own time, achieve success, develop enthusiasm, build lasting relationships and a great deal more. Two Steps Back, A Lifetime Forward is a much appreciated addition to the reading list for anyone seeking to improve their lives by improving themselves.

Active Living Every Day: 20 Weeks to Lifelong Vitality
Published in Paperback by Human Kinetics (T) (April, 2001)
Average review score:

The only exercise book you'll ever need.I don't normally buy how-to books. But a friend recommended this book, and now I'm recommending it to everyone I know. Everyone talks about how important it is to get exercise. But what if you're not the sort of person who has the time or wants to go to a gym? That's why this book is so helpful. It's a week by week guide to adding physical activity to your day to day life. It talks about the obstacles that get in the way, and how to get around them. It's full of stories of people who have faced the same problems and have found ways around them to become more physically active. For me one of the most helpful parts was learning how to measure how much exercise I get and then shoot for more. This is a really useful and inspiring book for anyone who knows they need to get more exercise but doesn't know how.
